Immortalised by Shakespeare in Hamlet, Elsinore lies near Helsingborg and sits strategically at Denmark’s closest point to Sweden, where the countries are just two and a half miles apart. This area is rich in history, culture and the arts.


Highlights

KRONBORG CASTLE
The most famous Renaissance castle in Denmark, Kronborg Castle was built in 1420 to help enforce the collection of taxes, though it is better known as the setting for Shakespeare’s "The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark". As you wander through the castle it is easy to imagine its scenes unfolding in grand public rooms, along its cannon-lined ramparts and within its vast courtyard.

The summer residence of the present Danish Royal Family.

HELSINGOR, SWEDEN
Take the ferry to Helsingør and visit the Kärnan Tower - the remains of a battlement that has protected Helsingør since the 14th century, Sofiero Castle and the main square (Stortorget) featuring its prominent neo-Gothic Town Hall.
