Once the residence of the Grandmaster of the Knights of St John, the 500-year-old palace is home to Malta’s Parliament.

ST. JOHN'S CATHEDRAL
The austere exterior of this Valletta church belies its interior riches, which include marble mosaic floors, knights’ tombs and a Caravaggio.

MDINA
Perched atop a plateau, this medieval city was Malta’s capital before Valletta.

CATHEDRAL OF ST PETER AND ST PAUL
Founded by Robert of Normandy, the original cathedral was destroyed by an earthquake and replaced with this Baroque church.

HAGAR QIM
The temple's façade, fronted by a large forecourt, features a stone bench running beneath standing monoliths.

TARXIEN
The oldest of these three temples dates from the 4th millennium B.C.
