Nessebur, Bulgaria

     

Oozing atmosphere, Nessebur’s cobbled old town is wedged onto a dreamy rocky peninsula less than a kilometre long, connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. Browse for hand-made local jewellery and ceramics or simply admire the Roman fortified walls or a sprinkling of picturesque Byzantine and Bulgarian churches.


Highlights

THE ANCIENT TOWN
Valuable monuments from the town’s long existence are preserved here including remnants of fortress walls from Roman times and the Middle Ages, old Byzantine and Bulgarian churches, antique 18th and 19th century houses.

SUNNY BEACH
An 8km long fine golden sand beach, with natural sand dunes.  Awarded the Blue-Flag for its clean beach and sea and fresh air from the surrounding mountains.

FORTIFICATION WALLS
The town has been witness to many fortresses built over the years and these have been excavated and restored for future conservation.

THE THERMS
Visit the antechamber, the center hall and caldariums of these thermal pools. The rest of these historic thermal baths are buried beneath the modern buildings.
