Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece

     

Just off the Turkish coast, Lesvos is the third largest Greek Isle, and among the most beautiful. Its undulating interior reveals hot mineral springs, attracts a dazzling array of bird species and produces Greece’s finest olive oil. The capital, Mytilene, wraps its joyful jumble of streets around the harbour and a clutch of 19th-century mansions.

HOT SPRINGS
One of the most popular activities for visitors to Lesvos is to enjoy a dip in a hot water spring. There are many natural springs on the island that are said to have healing properties.

BIRD WATCHING
Lesvos provides a perfect habitat with some good wetlands for a variety of bird species, so there are plenty of opportunities for keen bird watchers.

PETRIFIED FOREST
The only forest of this kind in Europe and estimated to be 20 million years old.  Volcanic activity during ancient times caused the forest to react and morph into this state. Visitors are able to visit 2.3km of this National Forest and admire the fossils and preserved trees which appear as though they are still alive.
