Highlights

LASSITHI PLATEAU
The highest inhabited plateau in all of Greece. Nearby Mt Dikti rises some 7218 feet (2,200m) above sea level.The plateau is famed for its myriad windmills, sail-trimmed arms revolving in the mountain breezes.

MINOAN PALACE AT KNOSSOS
The ancient palace at Knossos was excavated and reconstructed by Sir Arthur Evans from 1900 to 1940.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
Heraklion’s museum contains an enormous collection of Minoan art objects and artefacts.

KARDIOTOSSA MONASTERY
This 13th century monastery boasts a Byzantine church with 14th century frescoes and icons.
