Often described as ‘the pearl of the Adriatic’ Dubrovnik is truly an amazing destination to visit. Its history is rich and intriguing and the Old Town was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. For six centuries Dubrovnik was an independent republic – an oligarchy ruled by patrician families. The Republic was overthrown by Napoleon in 1808.
